On Saturday 3 September, Nick McAvoy, one of our staff members from our Melbourne office, who is also a volunteer firefighter, participated in the 2016 Melbourne Firefighter stair climb.

Nick was one of 343 firefighters across the country who completed a climb of 28 floors wearing 25kgs of turnout gear and breathing apparatus.

This year the Firefighter’s Charity fund was ‘Climbing for the kids’ with the aim of raising $343,000 for research and treatment at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI).

MCRI is the leading child health research institute in Australia, with a strong 30 year history. MCRI has a world class team of over 1900 researchers and staff dedicated to making discoveries to prevent and treat a range of child health issues including allergies, obesity, rare and genetic diseases, cancer, autism and diabetes.

343 is also a special number, being a tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York.
Nick smashed his personal target of $3087.00, and with Scottish Pacific matching individual donations, he raised a huge $5797 for this extremely worthy cause. He was also the 3rd highest individual fundraiser in Melbourne, which is an achievement he should be extremely proud of.
